Galisteo, New Mexico

Galisteo (sometimes spelled Gallisteo) is located along the Galisteo Creek in the Galisteo Basin. The town is named for the Galisteo Pueblo which was one of several abandoned and ruined Tanoan villages in the basin near the settlement.

The town has several artists' studios along with its full-time residents. Each year the town hosts the Galisteo Studio Tour in the middle of October when the area's cottonwood trees are showing their full gold fall colors. It is worhwhile to visit the artists' homes and go to the Community Center where many artists display their wares. A great northern New Mexico lunch can also be purchased from the local cooks!

The La Sala de San Jose Galisteo Arts Center which has served the town as a communiy center and dance hall since 1899 is located on the highway approaching town from Santa Fe.
