El Rancho de Las Golondrinas ,“The Ranch of the Swallows ” is a living history museum that dates from the early 1700s and was an important paraje or stopping place along the famous El Camino Real or the Royal Road from Mexico City, Mexico to Santa Fe, New Mexico. The rancho is above La Bajada, the hill that was the final barrier to those journeying linking Santa Fe and Bernalillo. It provided a place to stay for the travellers one day from Santa Fe.
Today the museum grounds provide several reconstructed buildings from New Mexico's past as well as celebrating many festivals throughtout the year (The Annual Santa Fe Spring & Fiber Fest, The Annual Santa Fe ¡Viva México! Fiesta, The Annual Harvest Festival, The Annual Santa Fe Herb & Lavender Festival, The Annual Santa Fe Fiesta de los Niños, The Annual Santa Fe Spirits of New Mexico (Halloween Event), The Annual Santa Fe Wine Festival, and The Annual Santa Fe Renaissance Faire.
