Tucumcari, New Mexico

Tucumcari is a small town in the western part of the state just off I-40 toward the Texas border. Its claim to fame is the Historic Route 66 that runs through the town. The name of the town was taken fromĀ Tucumcari Mountain, which is situated it. Numerous businesses, including gasoline service stations, restaurants, and motels were constructed to accommodate tourists as they traveled through on the Mother Road (Route 66). A large number of the vintage motels and restaurants that were built there in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s are still in business there to the delight of the tourists.
