The Castleberry family's relationship with the Maddens begins early with the marriage of Samuel Newman, Jr. who was born in 1741 in Penn. He married Eve Castleberry in 1762/3 probably in Newberry County, SC. Their son, Samuel Newman, Jr. was the father of the Rev. Johathan Absalom Newman. His son was George Alfred Clayton Newman. Alfred Clayton married Harriet Cathreine Arnold who had a daughter, Sarah Jane Newman. Sarah Jane became the second wife of Andrew Jackson Davis on 7 March 1878 in Bee County, TX. One of her children Dora Lee Davis married Frederick John Madden, brother to William "Uncle Willie" Archie Madden, both Matagorda Maddens.
