A History of New Mexico

This history is to provide a summary of events that are important from the earliest time in New Mexico until present.

New Mexico has a rich and colorful history! The landscape is beautiful and the lack of annual precipitation enables objects to remain relatively undisturbed for long periods of time. The topography of the land can be observed without the hinderance of extreme vegative growth. The early settlement of the state by the Spanish also provided a detailed written history from that time forward.

There have also been extensive archaelogical and anthropological studies conducted in the state by both private and governmental entities providing a vast written record.

In addition to the many resources that have influenced this project, special thanks to the staff of The New Mexico History Museum; Rick Hendricks, New Mexico State Historian; Andy Lovato; Steve Post; Dedie Snow; Alicia Romero; and John Taylor.
