Farm Blog, Fall 2017

September 21 - December 31

In the fall the weather turns from warm summer to cold. All the summer crops like squash, peppers, eggplants and tomatoes stop growing and turn brown after the first frost. They all must be pulled up in the veggie garden and put into the compost pile. The flower garden and pond garden are trimmed back and all of the vegetative material that has died after the first frost is composted. Fruit trees loose their leaves and the water requirements for everything will be diminished. The lavender garden is watered every couple of weeks as are the fruit trees until December when everything is watered once a month until the thaw in late March or April.
