Spring 2021
March 12
I finally spent time in the Santa Fe Botanical Garden as a docent after exactly one year. Feeling safer now since I got my Covid-19 vaccinations I plan to spend more time there and will venture out to more and more activities during the coming spring and summer. Who knows when Santa Fe will be fully open, but since more and more people are vaccinated this year has to be much better than last year!
April
April was a very windy month around the farm with one day of rain. We used the month to get ready for the summer months. Seeds were planted in pots in the sunroom to put into the new raised beds that were built during March by Future Roots Regenerative Landscapes. We also went to Albuquerque to look for chairs for the TV room. While we were there we ate out for the first time in a year at the Sawmill Market.
We went to Madrid on the 29th to shop and eat at the Hollar. More tourists there than the last time we visited. I had a burger and fried okra at the Hollar. They now have different rules for eating there.
I also began going once a week as a docent to the Santa Fe Botanical Garden. All of the fruit trees are blooming as well as the Western Sand Cherries and the Crabapples.
May
May was the most open month in town since the Covid-19 pandemic. Most of the counties in the state reached Turquoise status so people who had been inoculated could go into the public without masks. I still could not continue to give group tours in the New Mexico History Museum, but was able to carry out my docent duties each week at the Santa Fe Botanical Garden. Many more restaurants were open and more tourists in town. The winds were still blowing most of the time and we had a big hail storm on the 3rd. Our veggie plantings were not damaged however since we had everything covered with Pop Net Screen Mesh. Watering restrictions began for outside watering. Only 3 days a week before 9a.m. and after 6p.m. or 2 days a week with one day being on the weekend.
June
June was hot and dry. The veggies are doing well under the Pop Nets. Many of the restaurants are open, some with patios available where they didn't in the past. Fully innoculated people do not have to wear masks any more. The city also seems to have many more tourists visiting as well. I have been a docent at the Santa Fe Botanical Garden again for the past month on Friday mornings, but have decided not to return as a volunteer to the Pecos National Historical Park. The NM History Museum is open for visitors but still no tours are given.
We took our first overnight trip in 1 1/2 yrs. from the 17th-19th. Went to Taos and stayed at the El Monte Sagrado Resort. Also drove the Enchanted Circle to get up into the mountains where it was considerably cooler and greener. It felt really good being around people again without having to wear a mask. New Mexico reached 60% of the population being inoculated from Covid-19 so it opened up fully!
